Espanyol defender Victor Alvarez has successfully undergone surgery today after it was revealed he had a small heart defect.
The 20-year-old went under the knife earlier on Thursday to repair his aortic valve, and the club have confirmed via their website that the operation went well.
It is unsure how long Alvarez, who recently signed a contract extension at Cornella-El Prat, will be sidelined for in recovery, but the chosen course of action is expected to rule him out of contention for representing Spain at the FIFA U-20 World Cup this summer.
