Sevilla have appealed the red card midfielder Gary Medel picked up during Friday evening’s derby with Real Betis.
The Chilean picked up his fourth sending off of the season in Week 31’s opening fixture for lashing out at Jose Canas and slapping him in the face.
Sevilla, however, believe that the 25-year-old should only have been shown a yellow card, based on an argument of inconsistency in the officiating.
Their argument to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is, reportedly, that Canas’ own action in first pushing Medel, which he was booked for, was of ‘identical behaviour’ to Medel’s retaliatory slap.
Medel and Canas clashed after the latter took exception to a challenge made by the former during Friday evening’s 3-3 draw at the Benito Villamarin.
