Bayern Munich President Uli Hoeness is hoping that his club are drawn against fellow Germans Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League semi-finals.
The two Bundesliga outfits are in the pot for today’s final four draw, alongside Real Madrid and Barcelona and, for Hoeness, an all-German pairing is the most ideal.
“I want Dortmund. I want us to be in the final and I think that Borussia are the best rival to face,” the club President told Die Welt this week.
“Do you think that Borussia are better than Real Madrid or Barcelona? I think not! The general opinion is that Dortmund would be fine now.”
Even whilst listing Barca as favourites for the competition, Hoeness also indicated that he feels they are not the force they once were.
“They have lost a bit of their aura, previously they were winning games with clarity, but against PSG they had some problems and they are not used to that.”
The President reflected on the fact that this year’s competition sees two Spanish and two German representatives left.
“Now German and Spanish football are clearly the strongest in the continent, and it is no coincidence that these four teams are in the semi-finals, as Italy are not competitive at this time.”
