Joan Verdu has reflected on speculation linking him with a Bosman exit from Espanyol, commenting that his priority is achieving survival and then staying.
The creative midfielder has held off signing a new deal with the Catalan outfit until the end of the season, with his current deal set to run to its conclusion at the end of June.
Atletico Madrid and Sevilla have both been mentioned as interested parties, but the 29-year-old is insistent on where his focus lies.
“When jumping into the field, everything outside stops completely, including what will happen with my future,” Verdu told Mundo Deportivo today.
“It is logical to think about it and I am aware of what is being said and what is happening. But for now, I am focused just on playing.
“Everything has so far just been rumours. I am dedicated to this team and that’s it. My job is to help the team and I can manage that by playing well this weekend and getting three points.
“The rest I know nothing about. When the time comes I will study the options and make a decision. My priority remains staying here.
“Can I imagine Espanyol without me and Javier Aguirre? There will be time to talk about that. Now, we think of adding points and achieving survival. The club has decided to park all these personal issues until salvation is achieved.
“And that’s fine, it is what I have already said too. First you have to achieve the objective and then we can talk about all these issues.”
