Joan Verdu has promised Espanyol fans that the team are continuing to work to turn around a slight dip in form again.
Los Pericos are without a win in three and are at risk once more of slipping into the relegation battle. For creative midfielder Verdu, the situation can be avoided.
“We are working so as not to get to the final days of the season in an emergency, With this pressure it is harder to play,” he told reporters this week.
“We have come from a good run of results, with many points in a row, and everything other than winning is ringing alarm bells.
“But we just have to pick up a good line of form again. We believe in the day to day, rather than looking at the calendar, the first who we play against is ourselves.
“What has gone wrong in recent games? We need to be a little more aggressive and we have lacked effectiveness.
“We have not deserved these result, but they are like this. We cannot slow down. Our intention is to always win.”
The next game for the Catalans is a trip to Malaga for Sunday lunch.
“It will be a difficult game. They are a team that aspires to achieve great things and whilst their effort [against Porto in the Champions League] will be great, they can afford it.”
