Manchester United have been dealt a blow with the news that Phil Jones will likely be unavailable for Real Madrid’s visit in March.
Madrid face United at Old Trafford at the start of next month in the second leg of their Champions League Last 16 clash.
Jones, who kept track of Cristiano Ronaldo for a majority of the 1-1 first leg result last week at the Santiago Bernabeu, has now been all but ruled out of the return leg by his manager.
“We are working very hard. He has an outside chance for Real Madrid – no more than that, Sir Alex Ferguson told reporters today.
“He is a young man who went into a tackle too brave and was a bit off-balanced. He certainly won't be fit for the weekend.”
Jones is suffering with an ankle injury sustained on Monday evening against Reading.
