Mario Suarez is intending to make the most of his call-up to the Spain squad, so as to return for future selections.
Vicente del Bosque called up the Atletico Madrid central midfielder on Sunday as a late replacement for the injured Xabi Alonso.
Reflecting on the chance handed him, Suarez has made clear his intentions to grab the opportunity with both hands.
“It is an honour and a dream. Entering the national team is a luxury,” he told reporters this week.
“I have to get it right. The Coach has chosen me to count on me and I’m happy to represent Atletico, which is a club that deserves players to be here.
“The missing players are important for la Seleccion, but I’m grateful to the Coach and I will work with more enthusiasm and motivation.
“Being in that dressing room is great for a player and I will keep fighting to be here more often.”
Carles Puyol is set to reach 100 caps with an appearance this week.
“I want to congratulate him on the 100 games and I hope that there are many more. He is a great player and deserves to reach that figure.”
