Jose Mourinho is reportedly still considering Antonio Adan as Real Madrid’s first-choice goalkeeper over Iker Casillas.
Adan has been selected ahead of the Spain international in the last two League games, much to the debate of the media and to the ire of the Santiago Bernabeu crowd.
Marca report this morning that the Portuguese tactician is still unimpressed with Casillas’ level of performance in training and will continue where possible with Adan between the sticks.
Casillas is believed to be in contention to start the midweek Cup tie against Celta Vigo, as indicated by Mourinho at the weekend, and also the following weekend’s League encounter with Osasuna in anticipation of Adan’s suspension for his sending off in Week 18.
However, from the following fixtures, being the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey if they advance this week, and Week 20 in La Liga, Mourinho is at this moment expected to return to selecting Adan.
Marca allege that the reason for Mourinho’s persistence may be based on a ‘cold’ relationship with Casillas, but also on the desire to have Adan renew his contract at the Bernabeu. The 25-year-old is otherwise thought to be on his way out this summer on a free transfer, in search of regular playing time.
