Radamel Falcao admitted after becoming only the second Atletico Madrid player to score five times in a single League game that it was an unforgettable night.
During Atleti’s Sunday evening fixture at home to Deportivo, the Colombian was the first player in La Liga to net five times in a single game since Fernando Morientes did in February 2002.
Following on from Brazilian forward Vava’s five for Atletico back in 1958, Falcao is only the second to manage the single-game total whilst at the club.
“This is an unforgettable evening, I did not expect to score as many goals. I must emphasise that this is because of the team’s play,” the Atleti striker reflected after his side’s 6-0 win.
“We are growing mentally and on the field the team is strong. The week was not an easy one, but we knew that we had to do what we always do.
“The only one to score five for Atleti? That is nice and I’m very excited to be a part of their history. I’m not thinking about Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, my ambition is only to score goals and continue to progress.”
