Jose Alberto Canas has made clear that his frustration in being replaced during Real Betis’ weekend thrashing at Sevilla was no ‘smear’ towards the club.
The player headed straight for the dressing room after being pulled off before the half-hour mark of Sunday’s heavy defeat to Betis’ rivals.
“A change in the 28th minute does not sit well with anyone, least of all me, who represents an entity such as Betis, who I respect with all my heart,” commented midfielder Canas to reporters today.
“If this gesture was seen as bad, it was not intended to smear, it was of rage. It was a difficult decision for the Coach, I respect his opinion and do not think I have to give any further explanation.
“I did not see the game [after being substituted] and I will not watch it. It was a tough game and we did not do things correctly.”
About 100 fans attended training today and made their feelings known to the players.
“We will forget it as soon as we can and look ahead. The fans are annoyed, so too are the players. They should not think that because we have lost 5-1 that we are happy. The atmosphere in the dressing room is bad, because nobody likes to lose in that way.
“We want to apologise to the fans for the match and the result. We expect to get three points on Saturday and that together we can move on from this.”
