Athletic Bilbao defender Andoni Iraola has admitted that there is a real concern around San Mames after the 2-1 home loss to Getafe.
The Basques are one point off the relegation zone having won just twice in the opening eight La Liga fixtures and full-back Iraola feels it is a real worry, particularly since Marcelo Bielsa’s men had such a wonderful campaign last term.
“When you are down everything that can go wrong does go wrong,” he told assembled reporters. “A shot that hits the post, a handball that isn’t given…these are things that happen in football.
“Against Getafe we started well but they came back at us and made us suffer at every corner and free-kick.
“It is something we haven’t had to contend with before. In fact, it is usually us who are good at taking our own chances in these situations.
“We tried to play more direct balls to [Fernando] Llorente and [Aritz] Aduriz, but they saw that and protected their defence. It’s obvious we are not playing with any precision,” he lamented.
