Steve McLaren was critical of referee Vladislav Bezborodov after his Twente side lost out 3-0 to Levante in their Europa League clash.
The Russian official chalked off what looked like a perfectly good goal by Dusan Tadic midway through the first half, with some of his other rulings also upsetting the former England boss, who claimed he was ‘very disappointed’.
“I don’t know why he disallowed the goal in the first half, then he gave a penalty against us for nothing and their third came after a handball.
“There are some decisions that appear to be normal in Europe but those today, this Thursday, were extreme. The referee’s decisions determined the way we played and I’m very disappointed,” he told a Press conference.
Regarding the possibility of qualifying for the knockout stages, McLaren maintained the only thing he was thinking of was the home game with Levante.
“If we don’t beat them it will all become very difficult,” he admitted.
