Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata was forced to pull out of Castilla’s game with Ponferradina on Friday after a car accident.
The 19-year-old, who scored twice in the 8-0 midweek romp over Millonarios, was due to appear for the second string but suffered slight injuries after his vehicle was involved in a minor accident on the M-40 following heavy rain in the Spanish capital.
After being examined by club doctors it was decided that Morata should sit out the Segunda game, being replaced by Raul de Tomas as Castilla went in search of a fourth victory of the campaign.
However, a stoppage time own goal by Ivan Gonzalez gave Ponferradina an unexpected 2-1 victory at the Estadio Alfredo di Stefano, Borja Garcia having given the Madrid side the lead only for Yuri to equalise after the break.
Morata, who will also miss Los Blancos’ game on Sunday against Deportivo de La Coruna at the Santiago Bernabeu, later posted a message on Twitter.
“Thank God I am okay and that it was only a scare! Good night. Hala Madrid!” it read.
