Radamel Falcao intends for Atletico Madrid to win the UEFA Super Cup this Friday for the prestige it can bring the club.
The Colombian has begun the season on form, with a hat-trick netted against Athletic Bilbao just on Monday, and he started his Press conference looking ahead to Friday’s encounter with the 2012 Champions League winners by declaring his confidence.
“With Chelsea I am not preoccupied about their defence,” he stated to reporters.
“They are a very competitive team that works very well together and knows how to defend and attack as one.
“They are a very strong team, but we are prepared for this match. Our intention is to put in a spectacular show.”
Falcao reflected on the importance of the Super Cup and what it represents to him and his Spanish employers.
“With Porto I also won the Europa League. It is very important to play in a competition like this. A year ago I missed the opportunity to play for the Super Cup.
“Hopefully we make it worthwhile and can enjoy the game too. And our goal is to continue to make history with Atletico at European level.
“Our goal is to win the trophy because it gives prestige to the players and the institution. Every player wants to win these games.
“This year we will not be in the Champions League, but we will do everything possible to be there come next year. First, though, we have to win the Super Cup, we know the importance of this game.”
The striker, who recently declared his intention to match Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo for goals in 2012-13, was asked about the duo and Andres Iniesta, who are short-listed for the UEFA Player of the Year award which will be announced today in Monaco.
“Iniesta, Messi and Cristiano have had a great year, they are icons of world football. Everyone admires them and it is a decision for the journalists.
“I would like to be in their midst and at their level. I’m working to improve, but I am calm because the first thing is to give everything in every game, so I am relaxed.”
