There are reports that Athletic Bilbao will ask the Spanish Football League for special dispensation to sign players for a further 30 days.
The current transfer window shuts in Spain on Friday evening, but Athletic are reportedly looking at Deportivo de La Coruna’s case from 1997 and considering asked the LFP for permission to sign players for a further month.
Depor were granted permission to sign a replacement for Rivaldo as they successfully appealed that they had otherwise not had time to find someone during the window, after Barcelona came in for the Brazilian late on.
Athletic reportedly believe that Javi Martinez’ €40m switch to Bayern Munich this week has similarly left them in a weakened state and otherwise unlikely to find a suitable replacement before tomorrow’s window closes.
Reuters are reporting that the LFP are taking the matter ‘under consideration’, but reportedly no advances have been made on the situation today.
