Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez has officially been confirmed as a Bayern Munich player today.
The midfielder activated the €40m buyout clause in his San Mames contract this afternoon and has officially joined the German giants for a Bundesliga record fee, signing a five-year contract.
“I am very happy and look forward to playing for a club with such history,” he told the club’s official website, which also confirmed the news of his transfer.
“I have had to wait a very long time. Finally, that wait is over.”
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge also commented on the news: “We are so happy that Javi Martinez is finally with us. In recent days, we have had to resolve the tax issues and the legal issues. Fortunately for us, we have succeeded.”
