Real Madrid Coach Jose Mourinho has indicated that Real may make more buys, in his press conference ahead of the Super Cup second leg.
The title holders only made their first signing of the summer yesterday, recruiting Croatian midfielder Luka Modric from Tottenham.
“Our transfer campaign is not over until we have a full squad,” Mourinho began. “We are very much still open to buy and sell until we have the required players, and there are still issues to address at this time.”
The former Chelsea boss believes Modric is an astute signing, but the deep lying playmaker is not yet fully fit.
“Modric played a few minutes in a friendly with Croatia, but he will be ready to play soon as he has only trained a little bit at this stage.”
“We have signed a player in a position that we are comfortable in, but we waited a long time to sign him because he was top of our list to play there.”
Mourinho also commented on a Madrid staff meeting held in light of a poor start to the season that has seen the team lose twice and draw once.
“I spoke to them but I have nothing to say to you about it. I have not read the newspapers but I know some of them might have written about the meeting, and generally what they claim is untrue.”
“The meeting was called in light of our opening performances, which had the wrong behavioural attitudes. The loss to a team like Getafe can happen, but the important thing is that my players are in the right physiological state to play the next match.”
Madrid are preparing to face arch-rivals Barcelona at the Bernabeu on Wednesday, a game the Champions League winner considers tough to call. Tito Vilanova’s Barca won the opening game 3-2 last week.
“We will not do anything different to what we did at the Camp Nou, our match plans are very hard to script and prepare as it is an unpredictable game.”
“You cannot say we will only attack or we will defend, this game is hard but at the end of the day when they have the ball we defend and when we have the ball we attack.”
Mourinho also discussed defender Pepe, after he collided with goalkeeper Iker Casillas in their opening day draw with Valencia, and Kaka, whose move to Milan has broken down.
“Pepe trained yesterday with no problems, his wife gave birth to a new daughter and he is better than ever.
“Press conference after Press conference I am asked about Kaka. If he stays he stays and if he leaves he leaves. It is all down to the 31 of August. There is no set solution.”
