Malaga boss Manuel Pellegrini said the tie is still not over despite his side’s convincing 2-0 win over Panathinaikos.
First-half goals from Martin Demichelis and Eliseu gave Pellegrini’s men the advantage at La Rosaleda in their Champions League first-leg qualifying round clash, but Pellegrini believes passage into the group stages is far from certain for the Costa del Sol side.
“This result is not definitive and we will go to Athens next week looking for a goal from the beginning that requires them to score four,” said the Chilean.
“We had to go into this game with a certain maturity because of the young players we have.
“We spoke of having lots of patience and much more so I congratulate my players on their efforts.
“I knew Panathinaikos were tough opponents and we exceeded expectations, particularly in the first half, but we worked well in trying to create as many chances as possible because we were aware they would defend well.
“I am very satisfied,” he added.
