Jose Luis Mendilibar believes that the 2-0 score-line that defeated his Osasuna side was an unfair reflection of the game against Deportivo.
Los Rojillos fell to an opening day defeat thanks to goals from Riki and Nelson Oliveira, but Mendilibar believes that only tells half the story.
“Putting to one side the first 15 minutes, in which Depor had been better than us and made us work, we played pretty well, we bore the burden of the game and were equal with the opponent, but you have to score to win,” he ruefully reflected post-match.
“When they were perhaps at their worst and static, they let us have more of the field and waited for the counter-attacks, and then they scored a second.
“I can forgive the team and am happy with the way we played.”
