Real Betis defender Nelson has apologised to boss Pepe Mel after being left out of the squad for Sunday’s game at Athletic Bilbao.
Mel revealed at a Press conference that the Portuguese international would not be travelling for the La Liga opener at San Mames due to physical problems.
However, the Cape Verde-born right-back [pictured left] later refuted allegations that he was not fit, although he then backtracked and has since expressed regret for his comments via his Twitter account.
“I’m sorry for my reply yesterday. I have become so obsessed with injuries that I hear the word and cannot think of anything else.
“The Coach referred to physical problems and if by that he means a lack of confidence then that is true, but soon I will be able to help the boss and my teammates achieve their objectives.”
In addition, the 29-year-old former Benfica player insisted he has a very good relationship with Mel.
“I want to let everyone know I have total confidence in the Coach and that he is a person who wants the best for me and for Betis.”
