Sky Sports Italia reports that Sampdoria are set to sign Malaga midfielder Enzo Maresca next week.
Italian-born Maresca could be unveiled by the newly-promoted club before Tuesday following negotiations that have lasted over a week.
Samp are understood to want to wrap up discussions and terms on their return from Spain, where they will be facing Barcelona in the Juan Gamper Trophy on August 20.
Maresca has not featured in Serie A since spending the 2004-05 season at Fiorentina, while his other Italian clubs have included Juventus, Bologna and Piacenza.
The 32-year-old joined the Costa del Sol outfit from Olympiacos in December 2010 after having his contract with the Greek club rescinded.
