Athletic Bilbao fans have vented their anger at Fernando Llorente and Javi Martinez, who stand on the verge of leaving the club this summer.
Llorente has confirmed to the San Mames outfit that he does not want to renew his current contract, which has one year to run on it, whilst Martinez is in talks with Bayern Munich after they met the buy-out clause in his contract.
Until their departures are secure, though, the club has made it clear that they will continue to train as normal with the rest of the senior squad at Lezama.
That occurred today and a group of 20 fans turned up to the morning session, unfurled a banner reading ‘mercenaries out’ and shouted abuse at the duo.
Chanting that they did not deserve the shirt and to Llorente to ‘go now’, the group also fired two flares on to the training pitch, before singing support for Coach Marcelo Bielsa.
Curiously though, as many as 1,000 supporters turned up to the afternoon training session and were reported as remaining generally quiet during the team’s workout.
Reports in Italy believe that the club are reluctant to sell both this summer.
