Ibrahim Afellay was reportedly the subject of an offer from Liverpool, but the Barcelona winger turned down their advances.
Afellay, who has had an injury-interrupted 18 months with Barca has been linked with a switch out of the club this summer.
Liverpool were reported to be interested in him as an alternative option to other Blaugrana target Cristian Tello.
Dutch paper the Telegraaf are running the line today that the Anfield side were initially turned down by Afellay, but still waited ‘several weeks’ in the hope that he would change his mind.
However, Liverpool’s move for Oussama Assaidi is seen as evidence that they decided to change targets.
