Athletic Bilbao have been dealt a blow ahead of the season kick-off with the news that Iker Muniain won’t be fit for selection.
The tricky winger has suffered a mild calf injury in his right leg and is almost certainly ruled out of Athletic’s season kick-off at home to Real Betis on Sunday evening.
Muniain, who is expected to recover in time for next Thursday’s Europa League clash, is the third absence for Week 1 that Marcelo Bielsa has to deal with, with Fernando Amorebieta still recovering from surgery and Jon Aurtenetxe also out with a groin injury.
Meanwhile, the club have confirmed that Javi Martinez and Fernando Llorente, the subject of negotiations with Bayern Munich and Juventus respectively, will continue to train and prepare with the first team until further notice.
