Juanfran insists playing for Spain is more important than the ‘little’ injury he suffered in a friendly against Puerto Rico yesterday evening.
The Atletico Madrid converted full-back was forced off early in La Roja’s friendly in Bayamon on Wednesday after suffering a knee injury. However, he is not concerned about it.
“In my opinion playing for the national team is much more important than a little injury setback, I hope to be part of the Roja setup for a long time to come,” asserted the right-back after making his second appearance for the current European and World Champions.
The 27-year-old was forced to come off after a mere 18 minutes, suffering a suspected sprain to his right knee.
“I have spoken to Dr. Villalon, and he has told me I will be out for around two weeks. But without proper testing of the injury I cannot confirm anything at this time.”
Juanfran will almost certainly miss out on Atletico’s season opener against Levante this Sunday, and is doubtful for his side’s second outing with Athletic Bilbao. The defender stated he should return for the European Super Cup against Chelsea at the end of the month.
