Iker Casillas says there is no excuse for Spain not to get a positive result when they take on Puerto Rico on Wednesday.
The game in the Estadio Juan Ramon Loubriel in Bayamon could well be played on a heavy pitch as it is hurricane season on the Caribbean island and rain has been forecast.
Vicente del Bosque’s men will also have to contend with the intense heat and humidity following a long plane journey, but La Roja captain Casillas has dismissed the notion his team would be taking it easy against a team ranked 138th in the world.
“The travel, the flying time and the heat are no excuse,” maintained the Real Madrid man at a Press conference before training.
“It is not a question of life or death and I hope the game turns into a real party of football.
“We are living the golden years of Spanish football and are now fully concentrated on qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.”
Casillas also acknowledged that the World and European champions had received a fantastic reception in a country with which Spain shares many cultural similarities.
