Mourinho: Call me the Only One

Jose Mourinho believes people should stop calling him the Only One, instead of the Special One, a nickname he acquired at Chelsea.

The Real Madrid boss told Portuguese television station SIC that he deserves the new moniker as he is the only Coach to have won the title in England, Italy and Spain.

“I was presented with the Special One nickname in England. I thank God that things have continued to go well and, like it or not, I am the only person who has won the League in England, Italy and Spain.

“Therefore, they should now call me the Only One.”

Mourinho insisted that having had so much success in his career with Porto, Chelsea, Inter and now Real Madrid, the passage of time has even diminished his ego.

“After winning practically everything you become less egotistic. I’ve always enjoyed other people’s pleasure more than that of my own.”

He also recalled with particular fondness his time with Inter.

“To win something again [the Champions League] at a club like Inter, 50 years later, gave me special pleasure. Those are my challenges, not personal goals.”
