Cesc Fabregas believes Spain’s friendly in Puerto Rico on Wednesday will set the players up nicely for the start of La Liga this week.
The Barcelona midfielder appeared at a Press conference with new Arsenal capture Santi Cazorla shortly after arriving on the Caribbean island, where the visit from the World and European champions has caused quite a stir.
“The game will help us get into our rhythm before the League starts” said Fabregas, who insisted La Roja would be taking the game seriously despite the opposition being listed at No 140 in the FIFA World Rankings.
“We will now have time to watch videos of them. If you are not at the top of your game then any team can beat you,” he explained.
Cazorla was also at pains to point out the game would act as good preparation for the forthcoming season.
“We don’t know much about Puerto Rico but we will have the opportunity to get more familiar with them on Wednesday,” declared the former Malaga man.
Whether Vicente del Bosque’s team will be able to play their usual passing game could well depend on the state of the pitch as it is now hurricane season and heavy rain is expected on the day of the game.
The Puerto Rican Football Federation hope Spain’s presence will give a boost to the game on the island, where basketball has traditionally been the main sport.
