Malaga have confirmed that central defender Joris Mathijsen has left to join Feyenoord.
The 32-year-old has penned a three-year deal with Ronald Koeman’s team and becomes the fourth player to leave La Rosaleda this summer following the departures of Santi Cazorla, Jose Salomon Rondon and Apono.
Mathijsen joined the Malaga revolution 12 months ago from Hamburg for €2.5m, but the Costa del Sol outfit has recently been put up for sale by its Qatari owners and the Dutch international has been allowed to depart as one of the club’s high earners.
In his one and only season with Los Blanquiazules, Mathijsen – a member of the Holland side that reached the 2010 World Cup final and holder of 82 international caps – made 28 La Liga appearances and helped Manuel Pellegrini’s men to fourth place and Champions League qualification.
