Jose Mourinho says he regrets the incident when he poked Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova in the eye during a Supercopa de Espana clash.
The Real Madrid boss spoke to Fox Sports during the club’s pre-season tour to the United States and appeared to offer an olive branch to Vilanova before the teams face other again in the same competition in two weeks’ time.
“What I did I should not have done, obviously not, but I’m not a fool that does something without knowing there is a history behind it that makes me lose control.
“I do a lot of work with my players on precisely that, controlling emotions and thinking only about playing and working well.
“The person that was wrong was me. As Tito said a few weeks ago, the images will last forever.
“Most importantly they were negative images but there are no problems between us as we have met in games afterwards and greeted each other.
“The incident is over and we must now try and make sure nothing like it happens again,” explained the Portuguese.
