Atletico Madrid are lining up Zenit St Petersburg defender Bruno Alves to replace Diego Godin.
According to AS, Los Rojiblancos need to sell one player to balance finances and Uruguayan international Godin is believed to have received most offers over the summer.
Although boss Diego Simeone is considering a number of alternatives, Bruno tops his list of centre-backs alongside Porto’s Rolando, although the latter would need to lower his economic pretensions if any deal was to be done.
Even so, Portuguese international Bruno looks to be the more likely of the two to arrive in the Spanish capital despite his wages of €2.3m, given he is represented by Jorge Mendes.
Mendes was responsible for bringing Colombian hitman Radamel Falcao to the Vicente Calderon – he also has Cristiano Ronaldo and Jose Mourinho on his books – and enjoys a healthy relationship with Atleti President Enrique Cerezo.
Bruno, 30, had spent his entire professional career with Porto before joining Zenit for €22m in August 2010.
