A report in Sport Bild claims Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is interested in Schalke defender Kyriakos Papadopoulos.
The imminent departure of Ricardo Carvalho and the possibility that young defender Rafael Varane could go out on loan would leave Mourinho short on cover at the back, so he has been casting his eyes towards Greek international Papadopoulous.
The 20-year-old has become one of Europe’s most promising defenders since joining the German outfit from Olympiacos in June 2010, going on to make 47 Bundesliga appearances and scoring two goals.
He has also represented his country 12 times since making his debut in a 2-0 Euro 2012 qualifying victory over Malta, netting the team’s second goal.
In an interview with Kicker magazine, Papadopoulos made no secret of the fact he would like to play with Madrid one day.
“My dream is to play for Real and I hope that sooner or later it will happen. At the moment I am happy at Schalke,” he said.
