Atletico Madrid midfielder Emre Belozoglu, one of the club’s new signings, feels his team can match Barca and Real Madrid next season.
The 31-year-old was snapped up on a free transfer from Fenerbahce earlier this month and, in his first Press conference since joining Los Rojiblancos, said his team are capable of challenging for honours.
“There are some very strong players at this club and we are ready to fight alongside Barcelona and Real,” said the Turkish international.
“Spanish football is very good all round, very strong physically and technically amazing. It is the best in the world.”
Emre is due to make his debut in a red and white shirt in the friendly with Alianza Lima at the Vicente Calderon on Saturday, and claims he cannot wait to play in front of the Atleti supporters.
“I intend to give my all for the team and I especially want to please the Atletico fans,” declared Emre, who said he had already heard of the atmosphere created in the stadium by countryman Arda Turan.
“First impressions are always important and I hope it is a good match because the fans are very important for every player.”
