Real Madrid’s director of institutional relations Emilio Butragueno feels his club are ´extraordinary´ ambassadors for Spain.
The former Madrid player, who spent 14 years with the club, was speaking at ceremony organised by the Choiseul Institute held in the Royal Box at the Santiago Bernabeu, to celebrate ´Marca Espana´ – the Spanish Brand.
“It is an honour for the club, a great responsibility, and Real Madrid has been an extraordinary ambassador,” said Butragueno.
Butragueno, nicknamed El Buitre – The Vulture – feels Real’s success alongside that of the country’s football and basketball teams, plus other sportsmen such as Fernando Alonso and Rafael Nadal, has provided ´quality` and ´leadership` in portraying Spain’s image to the rest of the world.
The 49-year-old, who represented his country 69 times, took sport as an example of what the nation can accomplish.
“Spain can achieve what it wants with effort, sacrifice and talent,” he proclaimed.
