Espanyol defender Jordi Amat says he has heard nothing about a proposed move to Barcelona, reports Sport.
The 20-year-old has made headlines this summer with Barca’s purported interest in incorporating him into their B team for next season, but the central defender insists he is only concentrating on Espanyol for the time being.
“Neither I nor anybody else has suggested anything. I have a contract with Espanyol at the moment and am only thinking about that,” he declared.
Los Periquitos are considering sending the youngster out on a season-long loan, having signed Diego Colotto from Deportivo de La Coruna and Mexican Hector Moreno pushing for a place, besides Raul Rodriguez renewing his contract at Cornella El-Prat.
However, Amat is prepared to fight for a starting berth in boss Mauricio Pochettino’s starting line-up.
“There is a lot of competition to get in the team but we must all work together and then we’ll see who is the best,” he said defiantly.
“It’s a new season and I’ve come back from holiday very excited and eager to play.”
