Racing Santander centre-back Alvaro Gonzalez is on the verge of signing for Real Zaragoza, reports Marca.
The 22-year-old has had numerous offers to leave El Sardinero following Racing’s relegation last season, with Valencia, Levante and West Ham United all having shown interest in him, but it appears Zaragoza have won the battle for his signature.
Alvaro’s departure means the financially-stricken Cantabrians are left with just six professional footballers before the players return for pre-season training on July 13, and even then it is not clear if they will all remain with the club.
Central defender Marc Torrejon is being tracked by both Deportivo de La Coruna and Real Valladolid while left-back Domingo Cisma is understood to have received a good offer from Almeria.
The exodus could continue if midfielder Papakouli ´Papa` Diop also leaves, the Senegal international having been courted by Real Betis and a couple of Premier League outfits, and he has already made it clear he will be on his way if former President Francisco Pernia and owner Ahsan Ali Syed retain their controlling interest in the club.
