Josep Maria Bartomeu led Barcelona’s Johan Cruyff memorial on Saturday as “it’s impossible to understand” the club without the Dutchman.
Barca temporarily dedicated a space on the Camp Nou pitch to Cruyff, who passed away on Thursday, for fans to pay their respects, while a ceremony was held in his honour, with Bartomeu crediting the Netherlands great for La Blaugrana’s recent success.
“It’s impossible to understand Barca’s success of today without [Cruyff]. He was a great teacher,” the President began.
“It’s been a sad couple of days for Barcelona and the world of football.
“We opened the memorial to everyone who wants to remember a master like Cruyff.
“Everything [at the memorial] will be delivered to his family and widow so they can feel the warmth of the fans.
“The legacy of Johan is spectacular. He was a modern and nonconformist footballer.”
