Mou: Chelsea can’t sign Messi

Jose Mourinho has admitted that Chelsea’s chances of one day signing Lionel Messi from Barcelona are next to impossible.

The Blues are considered the likeliest destination for the Argentine, in the event that he departs Camp Nou before the twilight of his career, but the former Real Madrid Coach, who extended his contract with the Blues until 2019 on Friday, appeared to rule out such a move.

“There are only three clubs in the world who have the power to say, ‘we don’t sell’, and they are Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich,” he was quoted as saying by Mundo Deportivo.

“Is there anyone in England interested in Thomas Muller? Of course. Can we, in England, sign Thomas Muller of Bayern? I don’t think so.

“Would anyone like Messi? Yes. Can we sign him? I don’t think so.

“They are big clubs with history, economically strong and stable and earn incredible income.

“They only sell when they want to sell. When you see a player leave one of these great clubs, it’s because they want to leave.

“That’s my feeling. When will Messi leave Barca? When he finishes his career.

“We can either bring in talented young players before they go to one of these three great clubs or exploit situations in which there is frustration [on the player’s part] with a lack of playing time.”
