Koke: Filipe not a traitor

Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke says Filipe Luis is not a traitor and would be welcome back at the club.

The Brazilian full-back left Vicente Calderon for Chelsea last year but has been heavily linked with a return to the Rojiblancos after failing to break into Jose Mourinho’s regular starting line-up.

“Filipe decided to leave and now he has the chance to come back,” Koke told reporters on Thursday. “If he comes he will be better and that is good.

“We will be a better team and fight for more things. Filipe is not a traitor. As long as he plays and does well there won’t be a problem.”

Koke also commented on Atleti’s recent signing of Jackson Martinez.

“Jackson has had excellent seasons with Porto. The club is signing important players. We always manage to reinvent ourselves.

“Important players have gone, but others are arriving and the principles are the same.”

Finally, the 23-year-old revealed that Coach Diego Simeone is keeping his players on their toes during their pre-season preparations.

“The boss is doing new things so that we are not bored. At the moment it is going well, though he has said to us that next week it will be harder!”
