Official: Sevilla pick up Kakuta

Sevilla have completed the signing of former Rayo Vallecano loanee Gael Kakuta from Chelsea on a free transfer.

The French midfielder, 23, has agreed a four-year contract with the Europa League winners and passed a medical on Friday ahead of completing his Bosman switch.

“If I’m here then it’s because of what I did last season [with Rayo],” he said at his official unveiling.

“I hope to show my quality [at Sevilla] and perform even better than I did last year.

“Although [Thimothee Kolodziejczak] is my friend, I’m not here for him. I’m here because the club have opted to sign me.

“I really like the football that Sevilla play and it’s one of the things that brought me here.

“My objective is to find serenity and tranquillity [in my career]. After several loan spells, I hope to get both at Sevilla.

“My role will be decided by the Coach. I’m here to give everything. I’m an attacking player but I know [Unai] Emery likes his players to defend a lot.

“At Rayo, I also had to work hard without the ball and I’m physically able to keep up [with high intensity levels].”

Kakuta rose to Spanish prominence thanks to a loan spell at Rayo last season, where he scored five goals and laid off seven assists in 35 appearances.
