Nasser Al-Khelaifi has distanced Paris Saint-Germain from speculation linking them with a summer swoop for Barcelona right-back Dani Alves.
The 31-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and Radio Marca last month claimed he was close to joining Les Rouge-et-Bleu on a Bosman free transfer.
However, in a bid to set the record straight, the PSG President revealed the club were once keen on signing the Brazilian but opted against following up their interest.
“PSG we’re interested in [Dani] Alves for a long time, but we aren’t anymore,” El Khelaifi was quoted as saying by L’Equipe on Friday.
Alves’ future remains up in the air, with renewal talks continuing to evade the former Sevilla defender, while his agent and ex-wife Dinorah Santa Ana has been vocal in her dissatisfaction about the situation.
The French giants, meanwhile, will now focus on negotiating an extension for Gregory van der Wiel, before looking to centre-back and makeshift full-back Marquinhos as a permanent right-sided solution.
Barca face PSG in the Champions League quarter-finals later this month.
