Diego Simeone has admitted that Atletico Madrid could make a move or two in the transfer window, as they will be ‘open to anything’.
Los Colchoneros have been continually linked with picking up reinforcements in attack and midfield during the midseason transfer market, including the likes of Andre Schurrle, Erik Lamela and Bryan Cristante.
Today, their Coach has indicated that movement may occur in the market, if the right opportunity presents itself.
“When the market opens, I am open to everything because this is football,” Simeone has told reporters today.
“The sporting directors know of our needs. We shall see if there is potential to generate something. And if not, then no.”
Simeone was talking ahead of Atletico’s closing fixture of the year, tomorrow’s League match at home to Levante.
“It has been an important year for the club and its fans. Especially also for the players who have made an enormous effort to maintain balance.
“Everything is an incentive to keep improving and continue along this path.
“Am I concerned about focus being on the Christmas break already? It will be the same thing for Levante.
“In this game I see a Coach with a great record and experience and a team that is increasingly improving in defence.
“This will be a competitive game in which we will have to force the play in order to reach the result that we are after.
“The break will come in handy. The boys are going to work as they have been and certainly will return to us afterwards in the best manner.
“We have the schedule provided in training to reach the Malaga game [on January 4] in the best physical shape possible. We have important games in January.”
Atleti could be top of the table should they better Barcelona’s result this weekend.
“The truth is that beyond playing before or after the teams that are near us in the table, we look to our business.
“The important thing is to readily be focused on the game. I hope that the stadium has a good attendance. We need it. These games are important for our future.”
