Barcelona have confirmed that Lionel Messi is ruled out for a period of six to eight weeks after suffering a tear to a muscle in his left thigh.
The Argentine underwent tests on Monday morning to ascertain damage done to the femoral biceps of his left leg after being forced off in discomfort just 20 minutes into Barca’s eventual 4-1 win at Real Betis on Sunday evening.
The Catalan outfit have now confirmed that those tests have revealed a tear in the muscle and that a recovery period of six to eight weeks is required.
Barca also report that the first part of the recovery will take place in Barcelona and a second stage in Buenos Aires.
This is the third injury suffered for Messi this season and once more to the same muscle, albeit this time in his left leg when previous struggles were with his right.
