The Spanish Football Federation have extended Saul Niguez’s suspension for a red card at the weekend, for trying to deceive the match official.
The youngster was shown a second yellow during his team’s eventual 1-0 at Almeria on Sunday, but was noted in the referee’s report afterwards as having argued ‘in a loud voice…for about a minute’ that it was only his first booking.
The RFEF’s Competition Committee have taken a dim view of the player’s actions and have added a further two games to his automatic one-game ban, ruling him out of Rayo’s next three fixtures as a result.
Saul has also been handed a €700 fine for his actions and his club have been hit with a €600 penalty too.
Meanwhile, the Competition Committee have nullified bookings in Week 9 for Marc Bertran of Osasuna and Bruno Soriano of Villarreal.
The latter is available to face Valencia this coming weekend as a result, as his yellow quashed was the second picked up during the defeat at Athletic Bilbao and he was otherwise facing an automatic one-game ban.
