Joan Verdu has made clear that the delay on his contract talks with Espanyol does not mean he is talking with other clubs at this time.
Verdu’s current deal expires in the summer, meaning that from the start of this month he has been free to talk to other clubs about a potential Bosman transfer.
However, he has made clear today that this is not the case and that he is focused on just the one thing.
“My agent knows what my priority is, but I cannot close any doors,” commented the 29-year-old to reporters today.
“A few things have surfaced, but I told him to discard them all, as I know that now is not the time to talk about these issues.”
Espanyol are currently embroiled in the relegation battle, but a run of just one defeat from the last six games has Verdu optimistic.
“The feeling is positive after getting three points against Celta. Yet, we know that we face a team in Mallorca this weekend that we will have to fight hard with for victory.
“At this time, there is also the goal difference to start to consider. Ideally in performances the team will become more consistent over the 90 minutes.
“We must be strong and start with a clean sheet at the back. The Coach tells us that we need to improve in both defence and attack.”
