Following tests, Athletic Bilbao have ruled out the possibility that goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz’ injury is as serious as perhaps feared.
The goalkeeper was ruled out of Sunday’s home fixture with Malaga after injuring his left knee in training over the weekend.
An MRI scan carried out today has revealed that the player has strained the posterior compartment of the knee, but that there is no serious damage to the meniscus or ligament structures.
Via a statement released on Monday, Athletic have not confirmed yet how long they expect the player to be out of action, only writing that he will continue with anti-inflammatory and physiotherapy work as part of his treatment.
Sunday saw home-grown talent 24-year-old Raul Fernandez-Cavada deputise between the sticks for only his third appearance for the club.
