Real Sociedad resigned to losing Martin Zubimendi, Euro 2024 winner “very attracted” by Liverpool move

Real Sociedad have already lost Robin Le Normand this summer, and with Mikel Merino already on the exit ramp, they could be able to lose another key midfielder: Martin Zubimendi. The 25-year-old is being pursued by Liverpool, who are said to have already initiated contacts with the Basque club.

Zubimendi has rejected interest from Barcelona, Arsenal and Bayern Munich over the last 12-18 months, but those within La Real are beginning to accept that this time, the midfielder could be on his way. According to Noticias de Gipuzkoa, club officials are increasing resigned to Zubimendi leaving for Liverpool.

It’s also reported that Liverpool are willing to pay Zubimendi’s €60m release clause – which is the only way that a deal would happen, as La Real have no intention to negotiate. There’s also a belief that the player himself is “very attracted” to the idea of playing in the Premier League with The Reds.

In recent years, Zubimendi has re-affirmed his commitment to Real Sociedad on many occasions. However, with no Champions League football for the 2024-25 campaign, now could be the time that he moves on – it’s not set in stone yet, but there appears to be increasing doubt within Donostia-San Sebastian.
