Atletico Madrid have been making serious moves in the transfer market this summer, and especially in the last week or so. They’ve already signed Robin Le Normand and Alexander Sorloth, and have deals agreed for Conor Gallagher and Javi Guerra. They’re now set to agree another transfer, worth more than any that have come before.
As reported by The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Atleti are close to agreeing terms with Manchester City for Julian Alvarez, their dream signing for this summer. A total agreement has not yet been reached, but talks between the two clubs are said to be at a very advanced stage.

According to the report, Atleti could pay in excess of £70m to sign Alvarez, should a deal be agreed. The 24-year-old is said to favour a move to the Metropolitano, as he is very excited by the prospect of being managed by fellow Argentine, Diego Simeone.
Atletico Madrid see Alvarez as the perfect successor to Antoine Griezmann, and his arrival would certainly soften the blow of the Frenchman’s inevitable departure in the coming years. If they can get the deal over the line, it’d be some feat.
