Osasuna conduct meetings with candidates to replace Jagoba Arrasate

Osasuna are still lacking clarity on who will be their next manager after Jagoba Arrasate announced his exit at the end of the season. Sporting Director Braulio has reportedly been on tour around Spain, trying to find the best person to take on the difficult task of equalling Arrasate’s work over the past six years.

Ex-Almeria boss Rubi, who left at the end of last season, emerged as an early favourite, and Relevo say that Braulio has met with him to discuss the role. The pair have also worked together in the past. His playing style is a little more entertaining than that of Vicente Moreno, who replaced Rubi at Almeria, but he profiles as one of Rubi’s main competitors.

His talks with Braulio went well, and he left a good impression. Alaves manager Luis Garcia Plaza is another option, as many feel he will not extend his deal with the Basque side this summer, but he has not met with Osasuna out of respect for his current side – a renewal is not ruled out either.

RCD Mallorca coach Javier Aguirre would be a popular choice, given his first spell at Los Rojillo, but that has been ruled out, while former Cadiz boss Sergio Gonzalez met with Braulio, but is not considered as one of the more probable candidates as things stand.

Arrasate is set to guide them to yet another season of comfortable safety in La Liga, and were it not for a late injury, Ante Budimir, then they would have one of the contenders for the Pichichi up front. Osasuna are an excellent base to work off, but Arrasate’s good work should not be underestimated either.
